Projects

Welcome at Bike 4 All, we are a foundation which supports the cycling sport in countries of need. We have been at several places around the world to provide workshops, train together, learn together and enjoy cycling together.
These days we like to kick start and encourage worldwide initiatives who carry out activities on which we can identify our mission statement. We are open minded by providing support and invite you to exchange your ambitions with us.

Home

Bike4All supports projects and activities in the sports of cycling in developmental countries. We prefer to operate in smaller scale projects, close to the real passion of cycling on any level. Our support is given in different forms and methods. Small financial support is possible, but also organizational or (sports)technical advise, or direct participation by sending out professionals or students to work on the projects and activities we support.

Our goal is to let the sport of cycling develop and flourish, bringing people together in the process, supporting their personal development and creating a stronger society. 
Before we commit to a project or activities, we expect a plan in which the above is described and local commitment is strong.

**Who we are?**

Behind Bike4All is a small group of people that work on voluntaire base. They all have a relation with cycling and/or Bike4All. The board, in alphabetic order, exists of;

**Geert-Pieter van Slagmaat**

"I myself only raced one BMX race, in Son en Breugel when I was 10 and when I was 16 one cyclecross race in Eerde. It was my father Frans, who unfortunately already passed away in 2009, who provided me with the (cycling) inspiration. He was a cyclist in heart and soul and was one of the founders of Bike4All.

My daily work consists of helping people and organizations in their development. I have been doing this for over 20 years now from Bureau Van Slagmaat, an assessment agency based in Den Bosch and Nijmegen.

Together with the others in our group, I hope to achieve the objectives of Bike4All. Trying to give people with fewer opportunities a better life through cycling, gives a nice feeling. I do this from the role of secretary of the board. I hope we get far together."

**Gudo Kramer**

"After failed efforts to ride fast myself, I founded the Marco Polo Cycling Club, Marco Polo Cycling Team, and also the Bike4All Foundation. I managed Marco Polo Cycling for over 10 years (in cooperation with a great bunch of others of course!). I also worked for the Dutch cycling federation KNWU in communication and marketing functions and was involved in the organisation of numerous cycling events. Now I am the director of Topsport Gelderland, a provincial organisation supporting talent- and topsports programs and athletes.

Cycling to me, is a wonderful sport, but also a way to discover parts of the world, countries, regions, people and yourself. I hope many young people around the world will discover more with their bikes. I also hope that there will be more and more diversity in the top segment - making dreams from kids all over the world, trying their best, more realistic. I hope Bike4All can contribute a little bit to kids from disadvantaged backgrounds discovering their world."
	
**Marco Postma**

"I work as a coach in cycling on all levels and also run a talent development program. Besides that I have experience in business control and management. In recent years I have actively participated in our cycling project in Ethiopia. I am passionate about supporting cycling projects in challenging environments that can help cyclists and organizations develop and simultaneously create a stronger society."

**Rob Conijn**

"I have been passionate with bike riding since I was 15 years old and racing on elite level for many years. I had a leadership role in the Marco Polo Cycling team, a development team for riders from Asia and Africa, which provided a gateway for several riders to become professional rider in a tier 1 pro team. Business wise I have been working in leadership role within Distribution/ Logistics for Multi-Level Marketing companies, and I have experience in project & portfolio management as well as  operations management.

When I started bike riding, I think having the freedom to easily travel around (when having tailwind 😉) and see new places, combined with the competition element, is where my passion for cycling comes from. At a later stage, when riding in other countries/continents, you see many good talented riders. Providing support in development of these riders is very motivating.

To me development of riders can be achieved in different ways. This could be with 1 to 1 support whereby a rider or team gets support in any form, or on the other hand like throwing a stone on the lake where an initiative has a knock on effect. For example, the Marco Polo Cycling team did both, helping riders directly by providing a team & program, and it was the first continental team in China. Since then the number of continental teams in China and Asia have highly grown, which should develop cycling further."

About Us

The past few years, one of Bike 4 All’s board member was closely involved in a youth cycling project in Phayao – Thailand. In 2016 Banna Kamfoo (Thailand - previous Gold Medal winner of Asian Games Road Cycling) started with a cycling club in her village Ban HuaiBong in Northern Thailand.
As Banna achieved many cycling successes within Asia in the past which helped her developing. She wanted to give back cycling sports to the local community. Sports is not only a “nice to have“ for the youth but it is important to have a motivating target in life where time spending on the phone is excessive and drugs and pills are close by (also in Thailand). 
The project involved: cycling promotion at schools; guidance to parents and kids in getting acquainted with the cycling sport; running a cycling team. The cycling team consisted of a group of enthusiastic and actually good riders, boys and girls from various ages. The boys and girls were making progress and one rider, age 15, from the village Ban Huai Bong achieved a silver medal in the Thai Championships Time Trial 2019.  


The past few years, one of Bike 4 All’s board member was closely involved in a youth cycling project in Phayao – Thailand.

After having a pleasant and inspiring meeting with Vida Juliet Vivie, Bike 4 All agreed to start a pilot period in cooperation with the Vida Cycling Program. Vida Cycling Program is empowering women in Ghana by the cycling sport. By cycling Vida brings the girls together, encourages them to develop and go to school, teaches them the occupation of repairing bikes and helps the girls giving their lives more stability. “If you can fix a bike, you may understand you can also fix your life.”

Vida started her program in 1994 and was formally registered in 2009. Now days the program includes 54 children for which school fees are covered. Two times a week a training is organized, bikes are provided as well a (save) grass track. Once a month Vida Cycling organizes an individual a team time trial.

During the pilot phase Vida Cycling Program and Bike 4 All will investigate possibilities for a durable cooperation.

In 2008 former professional cyclist Peter Winnen, former team director Frans van Slagmaat and race expert Hans van Bon were requested by the Ministry of Sports to provide professional support to the Ethiopian Cycling Federation in their ambition to participate at international stages.

A documentary about our project in Ethiopia

Ethiopia on Wheels

For ten years (2007-2017) Bike4All was involved in Ethiopian cycling sport. From grass root up to elite level, we trained, learned and organized together. All these years we found a great partner in Mulugeta Asmelash and the organizations he represented. By Mulugeta’s support we assisted the national and regional cycling federations in chasing their goals. 
Together we organized races, workshops, training, sponsorships, and even established a mobile bike repair shop (in cooperation with Gered Gereedschap). On the way we helped over 20 Dutch students in their development as a professional and bridged an experience bridge between the Ethiopian Youth Sport Academy (National High Performance Center) and the Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen University op Aplied Science. 

Some successes of the LUCIE-project:

*   Igniting regional cycling federation and cyclist resolved their issues, which unlocked a 7 year during competition stop. Four clubs are established and competition started. 

*   In Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar en Hawassa we contributed to achieving local sponsor deals by which clubs where formed and individual riders were supported.

*   By providing workhsops we prepared coaches all over the country for their UCI-level 2. 

*   Marco Polo Cycling Team became an Ethiopian licenced team from 2012 and became the first professional team which competed international.

*   Peter Winnen Classic (day competition) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgJ24utflxY) was organized on Ethiopian soil for two times: Mekelle (2008) en Awassa (2011)


Lifting Up Cycling In Ethiopia (LUCIE). Several projects in cooperation with the national and regional cycling federations, including: setting up competition structure, a mobile mechanic shop, training and sponsoring advise and talent development
